About

York Separated Families began working in the city in 1973. At that time we were called One Parent Families and provided services only to what is often referred to as the ‘parent with care’. We now offer our services and support to anyone affected by family separation. Our work is based, wherever possible, on helping both parents to work together after separation in order bring about the best outcomes for children.

Our parent organisation is the Centre for Separated Families. It is the national charity that works with everyone affected by family separation in order to bring about better outcomes for children. The absence of conflict and financial security are key to children’s wellbeing. By supporting both parents to continue to provide a positive input into their children’s lives, we believe it is possible to help children to adjust to life after separation and reach their full potential.

Our services are available to parents who are caring for their children alone, those who are sharing care and those who have no contact with their children at all. Parents, step parents, carers, grandparents or anyone else with concerns about family separation are welcome. We offer a wide range of support and information including one-to-one advice.
